Travelling in Canada During COVID-19

Change is a certainty in life and circumstances all over the world have never changed like they have in 2020. Truly, there is so much uncertainty in the air that most people’s stress levels have gone off the charts. Add to that the unforeseen situations that often accompany travel and it’s enough to keep people hiding inside their homes.

However, the pandemic shouldn’t stop you from taking a much-needed summer vacation with your hard-shell roof top tent. Although there remain travel restrictions and extra precautions required to protect everyone’s health, holidays are important for everyone’s mental health.

Roof Top Tents are a portable way to get away and can be set up in any province across Canada. Now we have the perfect opportunity to explore our own backyards and country, while supporting local tourism.

RTT wants you to plan ahead and safely enjoy the great outdoors with the following travel tips.

Ferries and Airplanes

We’re receiving a constant, changing stream of information and updated rules daily. Before you book a flight or reserve your ferry transport, read through all the valuable travel information on their websites. You don’t want to be turned away for failing to comply with strict rules.

Cancellation and Refund Policies

In addition, don’t skip the important fine print under cancellation and refund policies. That goes for flights, ferry reservations, campgrounds, resorts, and so on. Prior to booking travel, make yourself aware of cancellation fees or non-refundable reservations.

Provincial Camping

Every province’s campgrounds have different rules and policies. Make sure you and your travel companions are aware of what is expected. Also ensure any facilities you require are open as there have been a number of closures in the ongoing effort to prevent the spread of the virus.

Recreational Activities

If you or your family members have your hearts set on specific outdoor activities, check to make sure they are available before you arrive at your destination. There may be restrictions or closures due to unforeseen circumstances. Also, ensure you’re prepared for recreational activities such as hiking and canoeing. Pack proper safety equipment in the unlikely event of an emergency.

Provincial Reopening Rules

Most of us are aware of the rules for heading out in public areas: stay home if you feel sick, get tested, maintain physical distancing, wash your hands regularly, and wear a mask. It’s also a good safeguard to have travel hand sanitizers and extra masks with you at all times. For further information before you leave, head to www.gov.bc.ca/COVID-19 .

Now is not the ideal time to ‘just wing it’ and take a spontaneous vacation. If you don’t plan ahead, you run the risk of being turned away from a favourite campsite or denied access because no one in your family have face masks. Travel safely and responsibly and you could end up having the best vacation ever.

Moreover, don’t let the news scare you into not taking a break this summer. With careful planning and proper care and attention, you and your loved ones can travel safely during COVID-19. Your mental health may improve, and you’ll return refreshed and prepared to take on whatever lies ahead.
