There’s a particular kind of magic that happens when headlights cut out and you’re lying in a rooftop tent somewhere deep in the British Columbia backcountry, nothing between you and a sky full of stars but a thin layer of canvas. It’s the whole reason we started RooftopTents.ca — to get more Canadians up off the ground and out into the wild places this country was made for.
Today, we’re thrilled to share news that takes that mission to a whole new level. RooftopTents.ca is now an official member of the Four Wheel Drive Association of British Columbia (4WDABC) — one of Canada’s most respected and long-standing off-road organizations, dedicated to responsible four-wheeling, trail preservation, and building the kind of community that makes overlanding in BC genuinely special.
“Adventure Together. Explore More. Give Back.” These aren’t just words on a poster for the 4WDABC — they’re a way of life. And they happen to match everything we believe in at RooftopTents.ca.
Why 4WDABC?
The Four Wheel Drive Association of BC has been the backbone of organized off-roading in British Columbia for decades. From maintaining trail access and advocating for responsible land use, to organizing community events and trail clean-ups across the province, the 4WDABC is the reason so many incredible backcountry routes remain open and accessible today. They are, quite simply, stewards of the landscapes we love.
When we started thinking seriously about formal partnerships, 4WDABC rose quickly to the top of the list. Not just because of their reach — though their network across Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, and the BC Interior is impressive — but because of their values.
As a Canadian retailer specializing in rooftop tents, roof rack systems, overland gear, and 4×4 accessories, we’ve always seen ourselves as more than a shop. Aligning with the 4WDABC formalizes what was already true in spirit: we’re part of this community, and we want to give back to it.

Event Spotlight: Vancouver Island Overland Rally 2026
Date: August 28 at 1 PM – August 30 at 12 PM
Location: Coombs Rodeo Grounds, 2601 Alberni Hwy, Qualicum Beach, BC V0R 1M0
The Vancouver Island Overland Rally is the crown jewel of the 4WDABC’s Vancouver Island calendar — a multi-day celebration of everything the overland community stands for.
This is exactly the kind of gathering where a rooftop tent goes from “cool accessory” to “absolutely essential.” Picture rows of rigs parked up, roof tents deployed at golden hour, campfire smoke drifting through the Douglas firs, and the kind of slow, easy conversations that only happen when daily life has been left behind.
The Give-Back Mission
One aspect of the 4WDABC’s 2026 lineup that genuinely moved us was the emphasis on Earth Day clean-ups. These are the working forests and backcountry roads that off-roaders depend on. Taking an active role in preserving them is a direct investment in the future of the hobby.
At RooftopTents.ca, we’ve always held that access to wild spaces is a privilege, not a right — and privileges need to be earned and maintained. That means packing out more than you pack in, leaving trails better than you found them, and supporting the organizations that fight to keep public lands open.
What This Means for You
Beyond the warm feelings of community belonging, our 4WDABC membership has real, practical implications for our customers. As an industry partner of the association, RooftopTents.ca gains deeper insight into what real-world overlanders across BC actually need.
We also gain the chance to meet you in person. Events like VIOR and the 4WDABC trail runs give us the opportunity to show up, shake hands, and actually talk through what you’re looking for in your overlanding setup.
“Our 4WDABC membership is part of how we put that belief into practice — because access to wild spaces is a privilege that needs to be earned and maintained.”
Gear Up for the Season
With a full slate of 4WDABC events on Vancouver Island stretching from May through August, now is the perfect time to make sure your rig and your camp setup are ready for the season ahead.
Our team at RooftopTents.ca is made up of people who camp in the products we sell. If you’re not sure where to start, we’re happy to walk you through the options: hardshell vs softshell rooftop tents, the right mounting solution for your rack, annex rooms for Vancouver Island’s shoulder season weather, and the accessories that turn a good setup into a great one.
