How to Keep Yourself and The Environment Clean While Camping

Camping is a fun way to enjoy the outdoor environment and connect with nature. It is also a recreational activity that offers many benefits, including mental health improvement, time focus, better sleep, and many more. Maintaining good hygiene while camping is vital because it helps prevent you from getting and spreading germs or infections. Besides its health benefits, having a clean circle while camping is essential as it helps preserve the environment and keep the animals that inhabit those areas safe. A dirty environment is not only uncomfortable to stay in but also dangerous because it attracts pests and local wildlife.

In this article, we will look at ways to keep yourself and the environment clean while camping.

 Wear Moisture-Wicking Clothes

The best camping clothes are moisture-wicking ones made from synthetic polyester or wool. This fabric can remove moisture from the skin using tiny, built-in capillaries.

This type of clothing would be beneficial in extreme temperatures (hot weather) as it helps wick away sweat while keeping the body warm and dry.

The less sweat and moisture on the body and clothing, the less you need to worry about contracting germs and bacteria.

Bring Two Outfits and Wash them Every Night

Camping is filled with various outdoor activities, so at the end of a long day, your clothing is bound to get dirty. If you plan camping for a day or longer, having at least two to three pieces of clothing you can easily clean, dry, and wear is crucial.

Washing in the camping area can be a little daunting, which is why we have done the due diligence of putting together a list of sustainable laundry tips while camping:

  • When cleaning your clothes, locating a water source such as a pond, stream, lake, or river is necessary.  Otherwise, pack extra water to use for laundry.
  • Come with a large Ziploc bag, then add water and a bit of natural unscented detergent.
  •  Seal the bag, then proceed to shake the bag for about Five minutes.
  • Next, dispose of the water at least, (300 feet (ca. 91 meters) away from water sources to avoid contamination).
  • Then proceed to refill the bag with clean water.
  • seal the bag and shake for about a minute to rinse away the detergent off the clothing.
  •  Dispose of the water at least 300 feet (ca. 91 meters) from water sources.
  • After rinsing, create a zip line, then hang your clothes up to dry overnight.

    Bath in Nature

Worried about how you can bathe without a bathroom? Not to worry, we’ve got you covered. Having your bathe in the opening of nature is an exciting and memorable way to bathe.

There are three ways to bathe in nature:

  • Come along with water
  • Pack a portable camping shower
  • Bathe in a lake

To bathe in nature, the first thing you need to do is to find a source of water, such as a: lake or stream. When rinsing off, avoid using soap or other cleaning products, as these could contaminate the water. If possible, do not use any soap or, better yet, when using soap to bathe, rinse off at least 91 meters away from an open source of water.

Furthermore, investing in a portable camping shower would be helpful, lacking any natural water source. A portable camping shower is a little piece of equipment that uses a plastic bag as a water container and has an air pressure system to help keep the water flowing.

Don’t Forget the Baby Wipes and Sanitizer

Using baby wipes and sanitizer is an easy way to get yourself cleaned. Baby wipes can assist you in avoiding getting dirty in the first place.

Cleaning up with wipes is pretty straightforward; all you need is to use the wipe to clean off the dirt from your body.

Apart from cleaning the body, you can also use wipes to clean dirt off surfaces, kitchen equipment, and many more.

Sanitizer works as a disinfectant killing certain germs on the skin. Just like baby wipes, sanitizers can be used to clean and disinfect. However, sanitizers come in liquid form, and also they are relatively easy to use.

  Try Dry Shampoo

Otherwise known as hybrid shampoo, it is a type of shampoo that reduces hair greasiness without using water. They are effective products that use alcohol or starch-based active ingredients to soak up the oils and sweat from your hair.

  Use a Sleeping Bag Liner

They are lightweight cloth sacks usually fitted inside sleeping bags designed to provide extra comfort and insulation and help keep the sleeping bag clean. This sleeping bag liner helps contain the grit from soaking into your sleeping bag.

Leave the Unnatural Products at Home

You do not want to compromise the natural environment of the camping area since animals and plants are highly dependent on the clean and natural environment. It is essential to do your part in protecting the environment so that future generations of enthusiasts can also enjoy the great outdoor environment. Altering the natural balance of nature can lead to wild animal species’ extinction and bring about global change.

When camping in the wild, it is important to avoid using chemical products which can contaminate the environment.
